Jerald Mattila passed away at his home just North West of Dassel. surrounded by his family on May 6, 2017.
Funeral service: 11 AM Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Cokato Laestadian Lutheran Church
Visitation: 4-9 PM on Wednesday at the Church
Prayer Service: 7 PM Wednesday evening
Interment: Cokato Finnish Cemetery
Jerald Curtis Edwin Mattila, was born in Estelline, South Dakota on July 4, 1928, to Albert and Marian (Hakala) Mattila. He grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota until age 12, then moved with his family to Ortonville, Minnesota. He graduated from Ortonville in 1947.
Jerald Served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954. There he trained as a diesel mechanic and served our country in the Korean War.
On August 16, 1952 he married Mildred Wuollet in Cokato. They made Dassel, Minnesota their home and were blessed with 16 children. He made his career as a diesel mechanic.
Jerald enjoyed many hobbies, among them were: fishing, hunting and camping, he enjoyed restoring old tractors and most recently at the age of 86 took up building fishing rods. Most important to Jerald was family Mildred, the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jerald passed away at home surrounded by family on May 6, 2017. He had reached the age of 88 years, 9 months and 2 days.
Survivors include his wife Mildred of Dassel, their children: Phillip (Caroline) of Zahl, ND, Susan (Mike) Jurmu of Loretto, Carol (Doug) Wuollet of Delano, Daniel of Dassel, Barbara (David) Wuollet of Plymouth, Maria Bratt of Becker, John (Rita) of Cokato, Mary (Joe) Lehtola of Buffalo, Nancy (Trevor) Simonson of Saskatchewan, Canada, Linda (Jonathan) Parks of Cokato, Sara (Chuck) Wuollet of South Haven, Samuel (Annika), and Eric (Juliana) of Cokato. Daughter-in-laws; Nancy Mattila of Nisswa, and Mary Kotila of Cokato. Sister-in-laws; Carolyn Mattila of Cokato and Lori Seppala of Buffalo.
Jerald is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Marian, 3 sons Steven, Gary, and Robert. brothers Mervin and Mark, Sister-in-law Judy Mattila. Son-in law: Gregory Bratt and 5 grandchildren.
