Helen Elizabeth Zander age 101, of Howard Lake, MN passed away at the Good Samaritan Care Center on February 2, 2021. She was born December 28, 1919 in Howard Lake to Arthur and Caroline (Hemple) Smith. Baptized September 12, 1920 at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake and confirmed December 19, 1943 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. She was united in marriage to Gerald Zander on March 28, 1938 at the First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake.
Helen enjoyed their homes in Howard Lake, on Mille Lacs Lake and in Arizona. Along with traveling in the motor home with Jerry when he was playing drums with the polka bands and on vacations. Helen liked to quilt, crochet, and knit, making many beautiful things over the years.
Survived by her daughter, Nyla (Wayne) Paulson, sons, Bruce (Carol) and Brian (Dianna) Zander, daughter in-law Carol Zander, 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by husband, Gerald, son Paul, grandson, Mark Zander, granddaughter, Sherry VanVleet, grandson, Shawn Zander, great-granddaughter, Samantha Zander, great-grandson, Tristen Paulson, sister, Dorothy Janneke, and brothers, Dale and Everrett Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2021 with visitation 1 hour prior to service at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
