Lanning, Donald Leo, 81

Donald Lanning of Cokato, passed away on August 18, 2016.
Memorial Service will be on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2 PM. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato

Donald Leo Lanning was born on May 25, 1935, at Louisville, Kentucky. He lived in Texas for a short time but grew up mainly in Louisville. He graduated from St. Xavier High School, Louisville, Kentucky. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps (in between the Korean Conflict and the U.S. involvement in Vietnam), were he received technical training in the repair and maintenance of aircraft communications systems. After being honorably discharged from the military, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Louisville. Combining those skill sets, he was both an electrician and an electrical engineer, and for a while worked at Honeywell with communications and navigation systems for the Apollo space program.

In the early 1980’s he attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul and earned an M.B.A.

Much of his working career was at Pillsbury (about 17 years) where he was on staff as an electrical engineer. In the late 1980’s Grand Metropolitan acquired Pillsbury and eliminated the staff engineers, he then became an electrical consultant for a variety of architectural firms, most recently EDC (Engineering Design Consultants), retiring just last year.

His prior marriage was to Carolyn Marie Lanning, which ended with her unexpected passing in July of 1990.

He lived in Minneapolis until 1973 then Hopkins until his marriage to Lucille Lorence on March 20, 1993. The couple made their home in Cokato.

Donald enjoyed everything about trains and was a model railroad enthusiast. He was an amateur historian, photographer. a student of the guitar, and until just a few years ago (once his leg no longer allowed him to stand without a cane) a home improvement do-it-yourself-er.

Donald passed away on August 18, 2016. He had reached the age of 81 years, 2 months and 23 days.

Survivors include; his wife Lucille of Cokato, son Michael Lanning of Hopkins. Step children: Vicky (Doug) Lindgren of Cokato, Randy (Susan) Vogt of Duluth. Step grandchildren: Angie, Jeremiah, Aurora, Anna, Naomi, and Adam.

Nolan, Derek Daniel 21

Nolan, Derek Daniel
age 21, of Cokato passed away with his family by his side. He was born October 17, 1994 in Hutchinson, MN. to Dan and Debbie (Heuer) Nolan. Derek was baptized in the French Lake Lutheran Church. He graduated in 2013 from Dassel-Cokato High School.
Derek enjoyed computer gaming and going to movies with his friends. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, riding his atvs, bikes, and go carts. Derek had a huge heart and talent for helping people.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Harlen and Marie Nolan, Maryetta Sale, and Ronald Heuer.
Survived by his parents, several aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends.
A celebration of Derek’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with a time of gathering 2 hours prior to the service at church. Internment immediately following services at the Albion Free Cemetery. Shawn Brian Zander, 30 of Coon Rapids. Passed away at Mercy Hospital on 7/27/2016. Survived by wife Jennifer Zander (Lieder), parents: Joan Keskey, David Keskey, Brian Zander, and siblings: Morgan Keskey, Courtney Keskey, Jeremy Zander, Jason Zander, and Krista Harvego. Memorial Service: 11 AM Thursday, 8/4/2016 at Church of Christ, Dassel, Minnesota. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM.

Scatieno, Lorraine Doris 93

Scatieno, Lorraine Doris 93 of Edina passed away 7/25/16, at Walker Methodist Care Suites of Edina. Born in Duluth, MN to George and Belle (Hansen) Wanzak on 4/21/1923. Graduated Morgan Park HS. Married Nick A. Scatieno who precedes her in death. Lived last 30 years in Edina. She is survived by her nieces. Grave side service 2 PM Friday, 7/29/2016 at Calvary Cemetery of Duluth. Family wishes to thank: the staff at Walker Care Suites, Hospice Care, and every one at Davita Dialysis, and a very special thank you to Jim for all your transportation, and kindness. Memorials are preferred to the humane society.

Reinmuth, Edward J 89

Edward Reinmuth was born March 25, 1927 at the home of his parents Louis, Sr. and Florence (Stoll) Reinmuth in rural Howard Lake, Minnesota. A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake he was baptized on May 1, 1927 by Pastor C.G. Seltz and confirmed in his faith on March 25, 1941 by Pastor E.N. Seltz.
Edward and Rosalynde Nelson began their married life together on August 29, 1948. This marriage was blessed with two children.
They lived in Howard Lake with Ed being employed by Bullert Construction of Glencoe. He then began his career as the road maintenance and heavy equipment operator for Middleville Township. Over the years he rebuilt and maintained the township roads as well as clearing land for farmers to expand their fields. His skills and dedication benefitted the residents of the township. For a time he also owned and operated the Howard Lake Laundromat.
Ed was active in his church and community. He served on various boards at St. James Lutheran Church and School, taught Sunday School and sang in the church choir for many years. In the community he served on the Howard Lake Fire Department, as a Scout Master and for many years sang with the Litchfield Male Chorus.
Fishing and hunting were favorite activities but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis, Sr. and Florence Reinmuth; and wife Rosalynde.
Edward is survived by his daughter Diane (Paul) Kobernusz; son Ron Reinmuth; three grandsons Jeffery (Dana) Kobernusz, Kelly (Raeanna) Kobernusz, Terry Kobernusz (special friend Julie); nine great-grandchildren; brother Louis, Jr. (Phyllis) Reinmuth; sisters Donna (Harold) Renollet and Mary Ann (Jerry) Linser; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
Casket Bearers are Jeffery Kobernusz, Kelly Kobernusz Terry Kobernusz, Debbie Kueche, Joni McDowel and Robert Linser. Honorary Bearers are his great-grandchildren Ashley, Zach, Emma, Elizabeth, Noah, Micah, Gadise, Jonah and Riley.
Officiating at the celebration of his life is Reverend Mark Loder. Nancy Butterfass is serving as pianist with special music by the Litchfield Male Chorus. Interment at the Howard Lake Cemetery.
A funeral service held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. James Lutheran School in Howard Lake. A time of gathering held on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 4-7 PM with 6:30 PM prayer at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake and continued 1 hour prior to the service at church. Arrangements by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
