Morris, Carl August Gordon
age 92, of Cokato passed away on April 20, 2016. He was born May 20, 1923 in French Lake Township to Isaac and Ruth (Peterson) Morris. Carl was baptized June 3, 1923 and confirmed June 5, 1938 at North Crow River Lutheran Church in Knapp, MN. He grew up in French Lake and Lamson, MN. He attended Dassel High School and graduated from Cokato High School. Carl worked as a farm laborer until joining the United States Army, serving his country in Okinawa, Japan in the 11th Airborne from January of 1945, until July of 1947. Returning home, he bought the farm in 1948 and married Florence Illstrub on February 15, 1957 at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They enjoyed traveling many places, including Alaska and Europe. Florence passed away on January 2, 2005. Carl was united in marriage to Elnora May Peterson Schmidt in September of 2005 and they made their home in Cokato. Carl continued farming until he sold the farm in 2008. Nora passed away in August of 2012.
Carl enjoyed fishing, woodworking, golf, horseshoes, and traveling. He was a member of the American Legion, North Crow River Lutheran Church, Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Marvin) Johnson of Lindsborg, KS, step-daughters, Rose Schmidt (Bob Swanson) of Florida, Gail (Michael) Mooers of St. Louis Park, MN, and Mary (Bill) King of Duluth, MN, 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 4-8 PM at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato and continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
