Forsberg, Maynard Dean 85

Maynard Dean Forsberg, age 85, passed away peacefully under hospice care at the Buffalo Glenn Memory Care facility on September 3, 2020.

Maynard was born April 17, 1935 at home on his family farm in rural Stockholm Township. He was the second of four children(Phyllis, Maynard, Nancy Dennis) born to Ernie and Pearl Forsberg. He was baptized and confirmed at Stockholm Lutheran Church. Maynard loved the farm life and enjoyed milking cows and working in the fields. Maynard said he always felt closest to God when he was alone on the tractor and was free to sing and pray!

Maynard went to Collins Country School for grades 1-8 and graduated from Dassel High School in 1953. He loved music and had a good singing voice, often called on to sing in weddings or church. Maynard was in the church and school choirs, played trumpet in the band and enjoyed playing his accordion with friend, Don Lundborg. After high school went to the University of MN, later transferring to Luther Jr. College in Wahoo, NE. In August of 1967 Maynard married Sandra Bergen, a music teacher at Cokato Schools, with their union lasting four years.

Maynard drove truck hauling peas and corn during canning time for the local factories, which paved the way for him to continue in the trucking business with Teske and Gambles for many years. He bought a custom made Peterbilt Semi-Tractor and began his career as an Over the Road Trucker and was very proud of his millions of miles logged and very few accidents. Maynard took exceptionally good care of his prize truck, which was second only to his beloved Chevy pickup.

Maynard was an avid flower gardener and loved nature and the beautiful scenery as he drove through on his trucking tours. He grew stunning roses at his home in Champlin, MN with many of his rose bushes being passed on to family members. Maynard loved being part of the Champlin/Anoka community and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Pearl Forsberg, sister Phyllis Terning, Brother-in-law Marlin Terning, brother Dennis Forsberg and nephew Kevin Terning. Maynard is survived by his sister Nancy (Rollie) Severson, sister -in-law Mary Forsberg, cousins and many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family is very thankful for the loving care Maynard received the past 3 years from the staff of The Glenn Assisted Living and Memory Care in Buffalo, MN.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Highland Community Church 13800 US-12 SW, Cokato, MN 55321 on Thursday, September 24th at 11:00, Interment will be at Stockholm Lutheran Cemetery following the lunch. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairview Hospice Foundation or the charity of your choice in memory of Maynard.
