Delmond Wesley Borg was born on December 30, 1927, at Swedish Hospital in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up first in Watertown, Minnesota and
attended grade school at Sunnyside Country School. Then his family moved to
a farm southwest of Cokato. Delmond graduated from Cokato High School in
1945. Delmond played both basketball and baseball in high school. After high
school, he farmed with his father and attended the University of Minnesota
Agricultural School.
At a friend’s wedding, Delmond met the love of his life, June
Carlson. They were married on September 10th, 1949. They made their home on
the farm southwest of Cokato, where they were blessed with their 3 children:
David, Dwayne and Susan. Together they enjoyed traveling. Their favorite
trips were to the Holy Land in 1985 and to Sweden for their 50th wedding
anniversary. Their love was evident to all those around them, as their
grandchildren fondly remember that “Grandpa was all about Grandma.”
Throughout his life, Delmond enjoyed farming, and also worked for a
time at Northland Canning. In 1974, along with Tex Haapala, Bob Carlson, Tom
Carlson, Doug Carlson and sons David and Dwayne, Delmond developed Top Farm
Hybrids, a seed company that continued through 2009. He was also on the
board of C&H Ag and president for a time of Wright County Farm Bureau.
Delmond was an active member of Elim Mission Church, where he had served as
chairman and elder. He read his Bible and did devotions with June daily. As
an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play,
in addition to the U of M Golden Gophers. Most of all, he loved spending
time with his family, especially picnics at the cabin.
At the age of 89, Delmond was called home to his Lord and Savior on
January 16th at Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel. Survivors include
sons David (Sharon) of Maple Grove, and Dwayne (Julie) of Cokato, daughter
Susan (Kevin) Anderson of Chicago, sister Marie (Dwight) Nyquist, and
sisters-in-law Ethelyn Carlson and Lois Engel, 12 grandchildren, 21
great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Delmond was preceded in death by his parents Turie and Evelyn, wife
June, and great-granddaughters Emilee Rose Borg and AnnaLeah Hope Borg.
