Keranen, Myrtle Carolyn, 84


Myrtle Carolyn Keranen of Cokato, passed away at Cokato Manor on November 15, 2021 at the age of 84.
Funeral Service: 11 AM Saturday November 20. 2021, at First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Cokato.
Visitation: 4-8 PM Friday at First Apostolic Lutheran Church
Interment: Cokato Finnish Cemetery
Myrtle Carolyn (Wuollet) Keranen was born on February 12, 1937 in Cokato, MN to Harry and Estella (Lofback) Wuollet. She grew up on a farm and attended Ojanpera Country School through eighth grade, then attended and graduated from Cokato High School in 1955. After graduating, Myrt took care of her dad and sister, Jan, until she married William Keranen on April 28th, 1962 at the Cokato First Apostolic Lutheran church. Early in their marriage Myrt and Bill lived in Minneapolis, and Austin, MN. In 1969 they moved to rural Cokato and lived there until Bill’s passing in 2007; she then moved to the city of Cokato where she resided until her death. Myrt was a life long member of the Cokato Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Myrt worked as a teacher’s aide for a while, and later worked as a nurse’s aide for a number of years; she also graciously fulfilled the duties of a pastor’s wife for almost 30 years. Myrt loved to sing, play the piano and organ, and was an organist at her church. She also loved to bake, and to serve food and coffee lunch to her guests. Myrt loved traveling throughout the states and abroad; her favorite trips and vacation time were spent in Michigan, at her and Bill’s cabin in Hermit’s Cove, on Lake Superior. Myrt was a caretaker at heart and looked after and advocated for her younger sister, Jan, all of her life. Children brought great joy to Myrt, and children loved her; at family gatherings Myrt was usually busy reading a book to a child; combing a child’s hair, or having her hair combed by a child; or holding a baby. She loved and spoiled her nieces and nephews, and her great nieces and nephews; they will dearly miss her.
Myrt is loved and survived by her sisters, Marcella Hallberg, and Mildred Mattilla; brother, Duane (Dick) Wuollet (Mary Ann); sister-in-laws, Dorothy Wuollet, and Eva Wuollet; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters in Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; parents, Harry and Estella; sisters, Elaine, Janet, and Marian; brothers, Stanley, Melvin, Harry, and Donald; and five infant siblings.

Mattila, Duane “Duey” V. 39

Mattila, Duane “Duey” Vincent
age 39, of Litchfield passed away on November 10, 2021. He was born May 25, 1982 in Litchfield, MN to Phil and Caroline (Simonson) Mattila. He graduated from Dassel-Cokato High School in 2000. Duey enjoyed riding his Harley, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilfred and Lea Simonson and Jerald Mattila, sister, Jody Mattila, and brother, Benjamin Mattila.
He is survived by his grandmother, Mildred Mattila, parents, siblings, Lonny Mattila, Trever (Lissa) Mattila, Amanda (Shane) Kasper, Billy (Vicky) Mattila, special friend, Nicole and her children, Jackie, Ashley, and Emily, along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and a black lab, Leo.

Mogensen, Marlana D. 66

Mogensen, Marlana Denise, age 66 of Howard Lake, passed away Monday November 08, 2021 from an automobile accident. She was born Oct 06, 1955 at an Army base in Baltimore Maryland. Daughter of Melvin and Janice (Schuman) Schroeder. Marlana grew up on the family farm in Waverly MN, which she enjoyed training her horses and going to horse shows. Marlana enjoyed gardening, going to concerts, taking care of her dogs, and decorating for Holidays.

Marlana is proceeded in death by her parents Melvin and Janice Schroeder, and her sister Joyce Mogensen. She is survived by her only son, Jeremy Mogensen (Julie); stepchildren Lonnie Anderson, Tiffani Anderson; grandchildren Kyler Mogensen, Cameron Mogensen, Hailey Bickmann Chloe Anderson; partner Chris Anderson.
Memorial Services: Friday, Nov 19th, 2021 at 1:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran church in Howard Lake, MN.
Visitation: 1 hour prior to service at Church

Carlson, Norma A. 96

Norma Arlene Larson was born on the family farm in Middleville Township on March 21, 1925 to Emil and Edith (Johnson) Larson. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1943. After high school she worked at a variety of jobs in several locations including California and Minneapolis.

On February 24, 1951 Norma married Carl Carlson at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church. Their 68 years together were blessed with 5 children. Norma made being a caring wife and mother her main calling until the children were in upper elementary and high school. At that time she added caring for the residents at the Buffalo Retirement Center to her job description. She worked at the Retirement Center until Carl retired from his job at Minnesota Rubber. After retirement Carl and Norma were very active in their children’s and grandchildren’s lives. They also traveled to several places. Norma was a member at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church her entire life. She was very active in Sunday School, Luther League and Ladies Aid. Two of her favorite pastimes were playing piano and putting jig saw puzzles together. Norma was a woman whose life was full of grace, compassion and helping others. The things that mattered most were her faith in God, her husband, her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Norma passed away at Cokato Manor on November 7, 2021. She had reached the age of 96 years, 7 months and 17 days.
Survivors include her children: Barbara (Richard) Barsness, Joan (Stephen) Schesvold, Steven (Jane) Carlson, Kathleen (Scott) Banta, Janet (Jon) Saksa. 16 grandchildren: Betsey Alessi, Amy (Jeff) Boyle, Sarah (Evan) Anderson, Mark (Amanda) Barsness, Elizabeth (Rob) Driftmeyer, Jenny Schesvold, Jordan Schesvold, Stephanie (Luther) Kemp, Elizabeth (Kalin) Kauppila, Andrew (Christine) Banta, Jacob (Rachel) Banta, Lucas (Lisa) Banta, Molly (Shaphan) Kirkpatrick, Heidi (Jacob) Nelson, Shelly (Caleb) Spitler, Brian (Abi) Saksa and 32 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 3 sisters-in-law Genevieve Larson, Joan (Beeb) Larson, and LuAnn Larson.
Norma is preceded in death by: her husband, Carl; parents Emil & Edith Larson and parents-in-law Frank & Alvina Carlson. Siblings and spouse: Lorraine (Donald) Carlson, Gordon Larson, Philip Larson, Daniel Larson. Siblings-in-law and spouses: Andrew (Evelyn), Waldor (Millie), Lawrence (Billie; Florence), Richard, Ellsworth (Edna), Verona (Bernie) Broman. Grandson-in-law Mario Alessi.
Memorials preferred to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church or Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota.

Nelson, Audrey E. 99

Audrey Elenore Nelson was born in Cokato Township on September 20, 1922, daughter of Fred and Nettie (Stenberg) Nelson. Baptized and confirmed at the Cokato Apostolic Lutheran Church. She moved to Minneapolis and attended the MN School of Business and was employed at the Hardware Mutual Insurance Company. In 1971, Hardware Mutual was renamed Sentry Insurance. She worked there for 38 years. In 1968 she moved back to Cokato.

Preceded in death by her parents, brother George and sister Elaine (Clayton) Brown. Survived by niece Lorene (Michael) Voto, grand niece Shannon Voto (Max Krueger), grand nephew Jared (Christina) Voto, Harrison and Grant Voto, step-grand nephew Gregory (Sarah) Voto, Steven and Rebecca, Cousin Daryll (Deb) Stenberg.
