Kaskinen, Doris Anne 92

Doris Anne Kaskinen, 92, of French Lake, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at her home in French Lake surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born July 30, 1932 to Nels and Annie (Williams) Matson in Chetek, WI. Doris was the sixth child of nine siblings.

After graduating from Chetek High School in 1950, she moved to Minneapolis and worked as a seamstress for Munsingwear. There she met he future husband, Eddie Kaskinen. Eddie and Doris were married on April 23, 1955 in Chetek WI. Eddie and Doris moved to French Lake, MN in 1958 where they raised five children.

Doris enjoyed sewing, and in later life quilting, she made quilts for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to travel and was fortunate to see much of the US, to include Alaska and Hawaii, as well as visiting the UK and Finland. Doris was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in French Lake where she served as a Sunday School teacher and a volunteer. Doris was a 4H Leader while her children were young.

Doris was a member of the French Lake Sunshine Club, which was a program started in 1961 by the Department of Agriculture to connect rural farm wives. The group still continues to meet monthly.

Doris is proceeded in death by her parents Nels and Annie Matson, her husband Eddie Kaskinen, her daughter Mary Kaskinen and granddaughter Sarah Smith.

Doris is survived by her sister Linda Magadance of Eau Claire, WI, brother James Matson of Columbia Falls MT, daughter Robin (Craig) Sonsteby of Bowdle, SD, daughter Joanne (Butch) Malcheski of Annandale, daughter Jackie (Kevin) Wilson of Cokato, son Charley (Pam Rudolph) Kaskinen of Annandale. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM at the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, followed by a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Doris will be buried at Riverside Cemetery near French Lake on Saturday June 28, 2025.

Doris lived to be 92. She had a good life, a full life and enjoyed seeing her family grow. Her faith was strong and commitment to her family was unmatched. She lived a life worth celebrating.

Glessing, Delores (Dee) Anna, 97

Delores (Dee) Anna Glessing
June 23, 1927 – June 15, 2025

Delores “Dee” Anna Glessing (nee Krohn), age 97, of Howard Lake, MN passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born June 23, 1927 to Walter and Elsie Krohn (nee Reek) on a farm south of Howard Lake, MN.

She was baptized at St. James Lutheran Church on July 3, 1927. Her early years were shaped by her deep Lutheran faith, strong family roots and the German language. When Dee first attended Corey Country School, her teacher, Miss Ardis Hess declared, “If Delores can’t speak English, I will not accept her in my class.” Dee rose to the challenge, quickly adapting and learning, and she attended Corey through the third grade before continuing her education at St. James Lutheran School. Delores was confirmed on April 6, 1941 by Pastor Eugene N. Seltz.

Dee worked at the Red Owl store in Howard Lake, the canning factory in Cokato, Nyla’s Bakery in Howard Lake and later became a beloved volunteer at the local care center. She brought joy to the residents by delivering treats every holiday – her visits brought smiles and excitement to all who knew her.

Her faith was central to her life. Dee served on the altar committee at her church and was deeply involved in numerous ministries. Through Naomi Guild, she contributed to making quilts for world relief efforts and local disasters. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as president, chaplain, and was especially known for crafting thoughtful favors for Veterans at the VA. For 25 years, Dee faithfully brought video recordings of the 8 AM church service to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, so that residents could stay connected to worship – a tradition she cherished. Dee also spent many years catering with her cousin, Orvella Doering.

On August 25, 1951, Dee married Marvin “Mark” Glessing. Together, they built a home centered on faith, love and family and were blessed with three children: Cheryl, Kent and Joan.

Dee loved life deeply and gave that love freely to others. She was dedicated to her church, her community and above all, her family. She enjoyed laughter, good company and the presence of God in all things.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elsie Krohn; her beloved husband, Marvin “Mark” Glessing, her granddaughter Megan Boss, her nephew Rick Simon, her niece Janet Krohn, her sister and brother-in-law, Ardella and Bob Simon; her brothers: Howard, Orville and Orlan Krohn; and sisters-in-law: Gladys Krohn and Lue Krohn.

Dee is survived by her children: Cheryl Moist of Waverly, Kent Glessing of Hutchinson, and Joan Boss of Waverly; grandchildren: Joshua Moist (friend – Bailey), Jacob (Amber) Boss, Tom Glessing (friend – Jesse), Amy Glessing, and Sean (Shelby) Glessing; great grandchildren: Logan Moist, Landon Lee, Britton Glessing, Marshall Boss, Jade Boss and Jasper Gjerdingen; brother and sister-in-law Ralph and Jean Krohn; sister-in-law Bernie Krohn; her cherished Godchildren: Sheri Doering, Lyle Lemke, Mark Krohn, Steven Krohn, Cindy Krohn, Scott Glessing, Dennis Reek, Rita Krohn and Rob Simon and many other relatives and friends.

Pall Bearers will be: Tom Glessing, Amy Glessing, Joshua Moist, Jacob Boss, Sean Glessing and Lyle Lemke. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Logan Moist, Britton Glessing, Marshall Boss, Jade Boss, Jasper Gjerdingen and Landon Lee.

A funeral service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11:00 AM, visitation will be held one hour prior. Interment will be at St. James Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. James Lutheran Church or School and Moments Hospice of St Cloud.

Delores lived a life of faith, love and joyful service. She will be remembered for her kindness, her strength and her unwavering devotion to her family and her Lord.

Birkholz Workman, Shea 33

Shea Ashley Birkholz Workman, age 33, passed away on Monday, June 09, 2025, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota. She was born January 15, 1992, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota to Bradley & Melanie (Sigman) Birkholz. She attended Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted High School. She met the love of her life William Workman in 2004. She was a CNA/TMA at St.Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, MN. William and Shea welcomed their three daughters into the world and Shea’s dream and passion was to stay home and raise her children; William made that dream come true for her. Shea was the heartbeat of her home. She organized daily life and nurtured her children with unwavering love and attention. Her family was her world, and she extended the same warmth to her nieces, nephews, and the children of her friends, always believing in the importance of helping children grow into great adults. She enjoyed golf cart rides to watch the sunset with her babies, iced coffee, the annual Rolag Trip with the Workman family, gnomes, music, and vacationing with family and friends. She loved taking care of people, all things antique, garage sales, homemade, family fires in her driveway, Alan Jackson, reality tv, comedy, and dark humor. Her sudden passing has left a deep void in the lives of her loved ones.

Shea is survived by her forever love William; daughters Eliana (13) Millie (5) Adaline (4); parents Brad and Melanie, maternal grandmother Gert Pettit; parent in laws Robert and Debbie Workman; brother Beau Brikholz (Stephanie) – Saylah and Judson; brother Cameron Birkholz (Valarie) – Jayden, Cesar, Charlie, Bane, Eva-May; brother Brandon Lehtola; sister Brianna Lehtola; brother-in law Alexander Workman; sister-in-law Leigha Workman (John) – Jerome and Hailey; chosen family Tonya Kieser (Zach) – Chloe and Mason; Rachel Bartee (Ryan) – MaKenna and Claire; and Amanda Loch – Landon; many aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her sister Faith Birkholz; nephews Faustino (Tino) and Carlos, Uncle Welsey and Aunt JoAnn Sigman; paternal grandparents Wilton and Phyllis Birkholz; friends Megan Boss, Jasmine Vanek and cousin Amanda Fern.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Shea touched are invited to the Swanson Peterson Funeral Home, 1224 Sixth Street Howard Lake, visitation from 11 a.m.- 12 p.m. Service from 12 p.m.- 12:30 p.m. followed by the burial at Howard Lake Cemetery on Saturday, June 14, 2025, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat. Lunch to follow at Shea and Williams.

Stallmo, Sherman Lee 85

Sherman Lee Stallmo, 85, of Winsted, MN (formerly of East Grand Forks, MN) passed away Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, at the Gardens at Winsted Assisted Living.

Sherman was born September 16, 1939, in McIntosh, MN to Gunder Stallmo & Alice (Anderson).

Sherman attended EGF Central High School and graduated in 1957. After high school Sherman joined the army. He served his tour of duty from 1961-1964. On August 10, 1963, he married the love of his life, Maria Gottinger from Passau, West Germany in Junction City Kansas. After his discharge, Sherman and Maria returned to East Grand Forks where he got a job with the E.G.F Police Department. Sherman loved working in law enforcement and spent 30 years there.

He and Maria were blessed with two children, James (1964) and Sandra (1965). In December of 1994, Sherman retired as Police Sgt. from East Grand Fork Police Department. Sherman also worked a second job. He got his realtor’s license and worked realty on his down time. He loved working with people.

After the passing of his wife Maria in 2016, Sherman moved to Howard Lake with his daughter, Sandy. His son Jim passed in 2019. Sherman moved into the Gardens at Winsted Assisted Living in 2021 due to health issues until his passing.

Sherman loved being with family, especially his grandkids. He loved to be outside, listening to his country music and enjoying a good cigar in the sunshine. His passion was the love of sports. He never missed a Twins, Vikings or Timberwolves game on TV. He was a big fan of the Howard Lake Orphans where his grandson Brad plays. If you knew my dad, he loved to make people laugh with a good Ole and Lena joke, if not another joke he had up his sleeve. He also loved spending time with his good friend Mark. He looked forward to his visits every week.

Sherman was a good, caring man with so much love to give. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Sherman is survived by his daughter Sandy Stallmo, Grandchildren Brad Bickmann, Haley (husband Shaun) Mahoney, Kala Phelps, great grandson Carter Weadick-Phelps and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 11th, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted, MN with visitation one hour prior.
Inurnment will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 28th, 2025 at Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks.

In celebration of dad’s lifelong love of sports, we encourage guests to wear their favorite team apparel to the service. Whether it’s a jersey, cap, or team colors, your tribute will honor the joy and passion he had for the games.
