Evelyn Myrtle Zander, 93

Evelyn Myrtle (Jauss) Zander was
born July 10, 1917 at her
grandparents’ farm in Taylor, North
Dakota, to Fred and Ella (Christensen) Jauss.

Evelyn was baptized on July 29, 1917, at the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Taylor, by Rev W.H. Larson and confirmed

April 20, 1930, at Christ Lutheran Church 19
miles Southeast of Dickinson, North Dakota, by Pastor William Geners.

On April 8, 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage
to Edward Bernard Zander, at Christ Lutheran Church, by
Pastor Geners, in Dickinson.  As a bride, she came to Howard Lake with
her husband and resided north of Howard Lake for 48
years.  When Edward passed away, she
moved to the Howard Lake Apartments on July 4, 1990.

While living on the farm, she
helped with the farm work.  Evelyn also
helped with the trucking business they operated the last 25 years they were on
the farm.

She was active in her church, St.
John’s Lutheran of Howard Lake, which she was a
member of since 1942.  She belonged to
what was then called the Ladies Aid, which did alot of sewing.  In later years, it was called WELCA and they
made many quilts for the needy.  Her
family was all remembered with quilts.
In later years, she took up crocheting as her eye sight was
failing.  She made afghans for little
children (Project Linus), prayer shawls and always had dish cloths for the
annual Christmas Brunch.  She taught
Sunday school for 25 years, helped with children’s choir, sewed gowns and sang
in the church choir.

Evelyn passed away at Good
Samaritan Home of Howard Lake on June 18, 2011 having reached the age of 93
years, 11 months and 8 days.  Survivors
include:  her children, Leroy (Sandra)
Zander and Lowell (Jeanne) Zander both of Prescott, AZ;
grandson Jason (Marjorie) Zander of Woodinville, WA; great
grandchildren; Michael, Eric and Madeline Zander; granddaughter Jill (Keith)
Tutewohl of Farmington, MN and her sister Ethel and family.

She was
preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; grandson to be Shane Elsen,
niece Linda and husband Robert Vaughn

 

Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at St.
John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake with
Rev Joel Swedberg officiating.  Music was
provided by Grant Judd and Jon Benson.
Interment at the Howard Lake City Cemetery.

Delphine Genevieve Bergstrom, 95

Delphine Genevieve (Isaacson) Bergstrom was born December
20, 1915 to Gideon (Gene) and Jenny Isaacson. This Swedish girl got her name
from a French friend of her mothers. She was born in Minneapolis and moved at
18 months to Stockholm, MN. At age 14 her family moved north of Cokato.
Delphine and Rodney were lab partners and read their graduation speeches
together. They graduated from Cokato High School with the class of 1934 and
later began dating. Following graduation Delphine attended St. Cloud Teachers college.
She taught in Annandale, MN until she married Rodney on March 8, 1941 at Elim
Mission Church Cokato, MN. During their marriage they lived in Winona,
Brainerd, Fargo and Cokato. She was a life long teacher. She worked at Cokato
Elementary as a substitute teacher and teacher assistant until she was 70 years
old.

Delphine enjoyed cooking, sewing, flower gardening, spending
time with family, fishing, putting her feet in the water at the lake and was an
avid reader. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Delphine witnessed many changes throughout her life. She was
born in WWI, during horse and buggy time, and the early development of flight.

Delphine passed away on June 13, 2011 at the Cokato Manor.
She reached the age of 95 years, 5 months, and 24 days.

Delphine is survived by her children, Richard Bergstrom,
Mary Jean Ortquist, Sue (Mike) Winge and Lynda (Randy) Johnson all of Cokato;
grandchildren Tresha (Damon) Melquist, Jennah (Jeremiah) Verhey, Jordan
Ortquist, Elizabeth (Josh) Kloos, Laura (Mark) Gabrielson, Annalicia (Phil)
Niemla, Grant Johnson; great grandchildren Kenzie, Kylie, and Kasey Melquist,
Jenavieve, Jasper, and Jorjah Verhey, Hayen and Vivian Kloos, and Cole Cochran.

Delphine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister
Marjorie Moangen and son-in-law David Ortquist.

Memorial Service: Saturday, June 18, 2011, 11:30 AM at the First Baptist Church of Cokato. Visitation 2 hrs prior to service at church.

Michael G. Boltz, 54

Boltz, Michael Greg, age 54 of Dassel, MN suddenly passed away on June 6, 2011. He was born July 17, 1956 in Litchfield, MN to Donald and Dorothy Boltz. Mike’s early years were spent on a farm north of Cokato and attending Ojanpera Country School. After graduating from Dassel-Cokato High School, Mike moved to Florida for a short time. Upon returning, he started working for Ailie Construction, where he remained his entire work life. He met and later married Josie Solomon. They have been together for 31 years. His life was lived for his grandchildren who supplied him with many a story to share with anyone willing to listen. Mike also enjoyed the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, sharing in their victories and giving his opinion on their losses. Mike enjoyed being with and laughing with his friends.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, and sister: Donna Boltz.

He is survived by his wife: Josie, stepson: Ryan Mobley of Hutchinson, Daughter: Rhianon Solomon of Dassel, grandchildren: Raven, Dakota, Angel, and Taya Mobley, and Annabelle, Jasmine, and Alyssa Solomon. Sisters: Karen (Eddie) Jepson of Darwin, and Sandy (Dennis) Montgomery of Cokato, along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 11 2pm at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Dassel. Visitation 2 hours prior to service at church. Arrangements by Swanson Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato (320)286-2534.

Beatrice J. Lehtola, 87

Beatrice Jean Lehtola, age 87, of Cokato, formerly of Annandale, died Sunday, May, 29 2011, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

She was born Nov. 25, 1923, in French Lake, the daughter of Charles and Elvira Leinonen.

Beatrice was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in French Lake, and attended Myrback school. She went on to graduate from Annandale High School.

Beatrice married Ernest Lehtola, and resided in Cokato.

She worked at REA Electric in Maple Lake from 1960-1988.After retiring she worked at Cokato Manor until the age of 87.

Beatrice loved gardening, canning, and entertaining. She also enjoyed cutting carpet rags and sewing them, doing paint-by-numbers, and playing Muggins. You could also find her doing crossword puzzles and spending much of her day reading her Bible.

Beatrice’s smile, jokes, and laughter will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Yvonne; brothers Howard, Walter, and Arnie; sisters Hanna, Hazel, and Mary; and nephew Tim.

Beatrice is survived by sons Charles (Sharon) Lehtola, and Randy Lehtola, all of Howard Lake; daughter Jeanne (Randy) Morris of Bloomington; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Kangas of Annandale; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service took place Friday, June 3 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale.

Arrangements were by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
