Melvin Buttenhoff of Howard Lake passed away at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Center on January 21. 2016

Melvin Glen Buttenhoff was born on September 22, 1938 at his parents’ home in Middleville Township, Wright County, Minnesota the son of Fred and Alvina Buttenhoff. A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake he was baptized on October 23, 1938 by Pastor Eugene Seltz and confirmed in his faith on March 29, 1953 by Pastor Theodore Melinat.
Attending Howard Lake High School he graduated in 1957. He then served his country in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1964.
On September 28, 1963 Mel was united in marriage to Beatrice Haag at St. James Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with two children, son Daryl and daughter, Dwan. They made their home for many years on a farm in Middleville Township. Mel was employed as a sheet metal worker while also operating the farm.
Mel enjoyed his time fishing, hunting and playing dominos. He was instrumental in the Cokato and Buffalo Farmer’s Markets because of his love of gardening. As a member of St. James Church, he served on various boards. Mel loved visiting with family, friends and neighbors.
It was on Thursday, January 21, 2016 while at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Nursing Home that Melvin Buttenhoff after a courageous battle with cancer was called to his eternal rest having reached the age of 77 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Alvina Buttenhoff; and other relatives.
Mel is survived by his loving wife Bea; son Daryl (Dorothy) Buttenhoff of Howard Lake; daughter Dwan (Larry) Tjeerdsma of Volga, South Dakota; grandchildren David, Grace, Danielle, Clare and Luke; special friends Chelsea Smith and Jared Horton; nieces, nephews; many more relatives and friends.

Lundeen, Richard Lee 49

Richard Lee Lundeen

Richard Lee Lundeen died January 11, 2016 in Erie, Pennsylvania one month prior to his 50th birthday. Rich was born February 11, 1966 to Barbara (Blaha) Moen in Minneapolis. He came to live with Ralph and Margaret (Peggy) Lundeen at the age of thirteen and was later adopted into their family. He graduated from Dassel Cokato High School in 1984. Shortly after graduation, he went into the Marines and served his country from 1984 to 1991. He married Amy Klingelhoets on June 21, 1985. They later divorced but remained friends.

After his military service, Rich met Gina Fallon and her daughter Gabriella who were very dear to him throughout the years. He moved to Longmont, Colorado where he developed an interest in bicycle racing, especially in the mountains. He volunteered with the Front Rangers Cycling Club helping at risk children by repairing bikes for them to ride in racing events. As a result of his volunteerism, he was chosen to carry the Olympic torch in the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Denver, Colorado. Professionally, he worked as a Quality and Training Advisor in the field of transportation in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Most recently, he was employed by GE Transportation in Erie, Pennsylvania as a Commercial Trainer.

Rich is preceded in death by his mother Barbara (Blaha) Moen, and his maternal grandparents Norman and Ruth Blaha and stepgrandmother Mabel Blaha.

He is survived by his parents Ralph and Peggy Lundeen of Cokato, his twin sister Cheryl (Mike) Mabin of Minneapolis, brothers David Juntunen of Minneapolis and Steve Severson of Buffalo, adoptive brothers and sisters Becky (Dan) Bravinder, Vicky (Paul) Neighbors, Randy (Phyllis) Lundeen, Patty (Spencer) Olson of Cokato and Joel Lundeen of Williston, North Dakota along with many nieces and nephews.

Miller, Bernice Mae 91


Bernice M. Miller, 91, died January 19, at the Cokato Manor. Services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 10 am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church Cokato with the Rev. Tim Wheatley officiating. A time of gathering will be held 1 hour prior to services at the church. Interment at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, Middleville Township.
Bernice Mae Peterson, daughter of Anton and Alvera (Est) Peterson, was born May 16, 1924, in Bethel. She attended Hutchinson school through the 8th grade. At the urging of her dad, she worked outside the home doing different things but also served as her mother’s helper in the family home, most specifically with her youngest sisters. She married Wilbert Richard Miller on May 23, 1947. To this union three children, Diann, Gary, and Richard were born. She was proud of her role as homemaker and farmer’s wife. She always said her children were her life.
Bernice was baptized in 1945 at Vineyard United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. She confirmed her faith before marriage at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Middleville Township. She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church Cokato and served with the quilters. She enjoyed the social activity and most notably baking treats for their break time and honoring members’ birthdays.
She enjoyed sewing garments and home décor in her younger years. When she was living on the farm, she and Wilbert enjoyed dancing, bowling, and card parties. Bernice had the gift of hospitality. Everyone was welcome at her table and never left hungry! Her favorite activities included baking treats and embroidering quilt tops and dishtowel sets. She especially loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Diann Mauk, and sons Gary (Jan) and Richard, all of Cokato; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Miller of Waverly, Brenda Ferris of Buffalo, Chad (Kari) Miller of Delano, Paul (Monique) Mauk of New Brighton; 7 great-granchildren; sisters, Vernadean Navratil of Silver Lake, Janet (Don)Bergerson of Plymouth, and Judy Haekenkamp of Winsted. She is further survived by step-granchildren, step-great-granchildren, many nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbert in 1968; brother, Marvin Peterson; sisters and their spouses, Betty (Harold) Welch, Fern (Floyd) Servin; Mavis (Don) Welch, brother-in-laws Jim Navratil, and Hubert Haekenkamp; and infant sister, Yvonne.

Siedschlag, Lois J. 77

Lois J. Siedschlag of Howard Lake, MN passed away at the age of 77 years. She passed at the St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, MN on Monday, January 18, 2016.
Lois Janice Siedschlag was born March 8, 1938 in Hammer, South Dakota, the daughter of Edwin and Alice (DeBoer) Henke. Lois was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Claire City, South Dakota. She lived on a farm and attended country school in Hammer, South Dakota.
On October 24, 1953 she was united in marriage to Arden Siedschlag at Webster, South Dakota. This union was blessed with the birth of 4 children, Linda, Jeffery, Scott and Kimberly.
Lois and Arden made their home and living by working on a farm at that time. Later they moved to Litchfield, MN. Lois was a home maker and also worked as a waitress in a bakery and a Red Cross volunteer. They moved to Howard Lake in 1962. Lois worked doing promotional demonstrations at Custer’s Super Valu and worked with Arden in the meat department there also and for Tonka Toys.
Lois enjoyed music, singing, dancing, playing cards, and games with family and visiting with people. She also enjoyed boating, camping, mini golf with grandsons, watching a grandson race cars.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband Arden, son Scott, Mother Alice and Father Edwin, brothers Arlo and Dale and sisters Maryls and Valdean.
Lois is survived by two daughters Linda Clark of Delano, and Kimberly (Allen) Monger of Bemidji, and one son Jeffery (Roxann) Siedschlag of Hutchinson. She had five grandson’s; James (Mary) Clark, Jeremiah Monger, Zachariah Monger, Eric Siedschlag, and Ryan Siedschlag, brother, Donald Henke, sister, Darlene Piewoski, along with nieces, nephew and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Saint James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 from 4-8 with 7 PM prayer at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake. Bernice Marquette passed away at Brookridge assisted living of Cokato on 1/17/2016.

Bernice Dorothy Marquette was born at Wilmot, South Dakota on June 18, 1930, to Bert and Dorthy (Law) German. She grew up on a farm near Peever, South Dakota, and was baptized and confirmed at the Peever Lutheran Church. She attended school in Peever. When Bernice was 18 she took a job in California as a nanny. She stayed 2 years then came back home.
In the 1950’s Bernice married Gene Marquette. The couple made their home in Minnesota; to this union a daughter Debbie was born. Besides being a nanny Bernice had many jobs she worked at the nursing home in Cokato, as a waitress in South Haven and Annandale. She worked at a bakery in Rockford and worked at the Milbank hospital and nursing home for 19 years.
Bernice came from a musical family, she enjoyed all music mostly old time, and gospel Bruce Hoffman was her favorite musician. She enjoyed dancing, tour trips to concerts and Branson, and watching the “Young and the Restless”. Mostly she enjoyed her friends and family. She enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren, and the birthday club.
Bernice passed away at Brookridge assisted living in Cokato on January 17, 2016. She had reached the age of 85 years, 6 months and 29 days. Survivors include her daughter Debbie Sheldon of Cokato, Grand children: Sonia (Scott) Ewald of Brownton, Chantel (Brice) Gillman of Darwin, Sarah Sheldon of Cokato, Kevin Sheldon of Cokato and Kyle Sheldon of Cokato. 5 great grand daughters; Isabella, Brooklyn, Morgan, McKenna, Leah. 3 great grand sons; Gaven, Bodee, and Deon. Sisters; Jeanette Snazy of Grenville, South Dakota, and Charolette Fryer of Milbank, South Dakota.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents Bert and Dorthy, 2 sisters Yvonne Skogland, and Deeann Jensen. Brothers Herbert, Harold and
Allan German.
