Gloria Ann (Hammer) Lindquist of Cokato passed away peacefully on January 26, 2026 in Independence, Minnesota. She lived 99 years and 176 days.
Gloria was born August 3, 1926 in French Lake Township to Reuben and Lillian (Janckila) Hammer. She grew up in Wayzata and Minneapolis with her sister and brothers Marcella Perry, Courtney Hammer and Duane Hammer. She was confirmed in the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church and graduated from North High School in Minneapolis. She was a member of the O’Ten Club,
a group of 10 girls from North High who met monthly for more than 70 years.
Gloria worked for 18 years at Northwestern National Bank in downtown Minneapolis. She played softball, golf and bowled for the bank. She loved shopping at Dayton’s, Donaldson’s, Penny’s and Powers on her lunch breaks.
On November 9, 1963, Gloria married Elmer Lindquist and became the stepmother to 3 sons, Bruce, Gary and Randy. Elmer and Gloria then had a daughter, Sandra. Elmer and Gloria were married for 42 years.
Gloria was a seamstress, gardener, interior decorator, oil painter, quilter, crafter and made ceramics. She loved volunteering for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 209. She loved to entertain, collect things, camp, and spend time at her family’s cottage on Cokato Lake.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Elmer; parents Reuben and Lillian; brothers Courtney (Janice), Duane, sister Marcella (Ernest); Lindquist brothers-in-law and wives Vernon (Frances), Lawrence (Winnifred), Robert (Eva), Paul and sister-in-law Myrtle (Dennis) Breitholtz; nephews Joseph and Timothy Hammer, Thomas Perry, Dale Lindquist, nieces Susan George and Deborah Lindquist; and grandson-in-law Bruce Ackerman.
Gloria is survived by her daughter Sandra (Stephen) Lind; granddaughters Dara Gloria Lind, Deborah Ackerman, Jessica Lindquist, Anne (Jesse) Lindquist, grandsons Jason (Marisol) and Bryant Lindquist; 3 daughters-in-law Evelyn Lindquist, Donna Lindquist and Sandra Montgomery; sisters-in-law Katherine Hammer and Karen Lindquist, 9 great-grandchildren Matthew, Kristen, Makayla, Ryan, Jacob, Noah, Jesse, Lila, Ava, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service for Gloria will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 2nd at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Sunday at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato, Minnesota. Also, one hour prior to service on Monday at the church.
